First, Brazil had no sense of humor about The Simpsons

Now Kazakhstan has a bug up its butt about faux-Kazakh Borat.

Still my favorite national indignation had to be when Quebec called Triumph the Insult comic dog "racist"

Would there be any higher honor than being named in a civil suit by Kazakhstan?

I find Borat's suit to be very uncivil.

"Kazakhstan, the world's ninth largest country "
There has to be a some way win money with this info in a bar bet.

The Quebecois calling anyone racist, let alone the insult comic dog, is absurd.

I spent some time "way" up there in the city of Chicoutimi, and these were not racially sensitive types. They didn't like the indigenous and they hated other Canadians. Before I left my host family to come back to America, the mother gave me the whole "you'll end up in a tub of ice without a kidney" urban legend, only in person rather than on the internet, which I thought was a nice touch. Her spin on the matter was that it was the work of the black man.

Having said all of that, I'd go back in a second. It was kind of like an icy cold West Virginia with people speaking French.

What is poutine? It always amazes me how much I don't know that everyone else seems to.

the national dish of Quebec

For future reference look at Germanicus' links. They included the ever handy Wikipedia.

Paradoxically, I think that's one statement we can all agree on.

I seem to remember this now, although I had completely forgotten the name. If offered such a dish without the explanation, I would likely have thought it to be one of their gags, such as when a restaurant serves food based on an English speakers misuse of the article (as bring me "the" fries can mean bring me all the ones in the world, or at least all the ones they have on hand there--the ensuing disaster that would have come from ordering "the" poutine makes me glad I never tried) If memory serves me, the real national dish of Quebec is alcohol, and they have a penchant for abusing outlanders, although the people I met were very nice to me.

If I can pontificate and offend at the same time, my experience with the Quebecois taught me that someone could be horribly wrong on one matter (race) and yet really have some things worth saying and be decent folk. We are all flawed individuals, and maybe we'd all do better to extend grace to people, even racists, who perhaps show their depravity a bit more profoundly than the rest of us. In the meantime, my kidneys are safe.
