End Democracy Now!
Hitler was democratically elected. Saddam Hussein was democratically elected. Hamas was democratically elected.
Maybe we should declare War On Democracy, since it causes so damn many problems.

This confluence of Hitler references has completely overpowered Godwin's Law.
I don't think Hitler or Saddam actually were democratically elected, were they?
Saddam no, Hitler yes.
I think "democracy" is a weasel word. Today it can mean "the people rule," but when tomorrow "the people" want Hamas, it means "a government which does not want to destroy Israel."
I'm not wild about the Palestinian's choices (or the Venezuelan's, for that matter), but the United States is going to have to settle on a definition of Democracy, because the people are choosing and if that's a problem, then either Democracy itself is faulty or at least it was a bad idea in the considered areas.
"Saddam no, Hitler yes."
I know I could easily find this out on Wikipedia, but weren't the Nazis brought in by Hindenburg on some sort of power-sharing agreement, at which time Hitler became chancellor because he was head of the party? I know that's not a coup exactly, but it also seems kind of dicey to call it "democratically elected." Maybe I'm wrong entirely.
The Nazi party had a plurality in Reichstag after the election in 1933. Hindenburg was the president and head of state and asked Hitler to form a government, which was a coalition.
Hitler then used the fire in the Reichstag as the final in a long series of provocations (intiated by the Nazi's by non legal means) to get the Reichstag to vote him emergency powers, in effect make him dictator. Other parties went along because the brown shirts had been beating the crap out of the opposition and intimidating the memebers of parliament.
Once Hitler had the emergency powers he suppressed all of the opposition and never relinquished power.
